Bio – Louden Swain

Louden Swain likes to do things their own way. Over the course of two decades together, the resourceful Los Angeles combo has released a series of impressively accomplished albums, toured successfully throughout North America, Europe, and Australia, and built a dedicated social media following—all without the support of a mainstream record label.

When the band set out to record their 8th studio album, Splitting The Seams, the idea was to make an “acoustic” album featuring fan favorites from their extensive catalog. While many artists would just unplug and rehash the same old arrangements, Louden Swain wanted to do something different. Many of the songs were re-imagined and now feature totally different instrumentation. The result is a collection full of both foot stomping upbeat grooves, and breathtakingly intimate moments that remind listeners of what makes this band unique—infectious hooks, sing-along melodies, and unique lyrical takes on love, life, and what happens along the way.

Taking their collective moniker from the plucky protagonist of the ’80s film Vision Quest, singer Rob Benedict, bassist Mike Borja and drummer Stephen Norton launched the band in 1997, after meeting at a party in Los Angeles. Their early punk-inspired sound quickly expanded into a more adventurous and experimental sensibility, while maintaining the tuneful, emotionally open approach that first endeared the group to its fans on the early releases 2001’s Able-Legged Heroes, 2003’s Overachiever, and 2006’s Suit And Tie. The addition of lead guitarist Billy Moran in 2006 allowed the band to finally realize the sonic vision that they’d been hearing in their heads.

Those epic visions and expanded horizons manifested themselves on the albums A Brand New Hurt (2009), Eskimo (2011), Sky Alive (2014), and No Time Like The Present (2017). It was during this time that the band discovered a new, rabid fanbase propelled by fans of The CW’s hit television show, Supernatural which featured lead singer Rob Benedict.

Splitting The Seams is a new chapter for Louden Swain, one that reconnects them with their past, while forging ahead into new territory as they continue to reach out to both old and new audiences on the road this fall and throughout 2019.
