A Vancouver native, Teryl Rothery always knew she wanted to be an entertainer. She began her career as a dancer at the age of 13 in the musical “Bye Bye Birdie”. Her role in “Annie Get Your Gun” earned her a Most Outstanding Performer award with her theater company. She danced on The Irish Rovers variety television series, before making her first TV appearance at 18 with a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Halloween special.
Teryl worked in radio for the next eight years, variously working and performing for CJAZ-FM, KISS-FM, and CKWX, before seriously launching her TV career with a number of guest starring roles in shows and TV movies, as well as voicing characters for Ronin Warriors and Ranma 1/2. Her first major roles were also in voice acting, in King Arthur and the Knights of Justice, alongside Stargate SG-1 co-star Garry Chalk, and Exosquad as Lt. Maggie Weston. In 1997 she landed the role of Dr. Janet Fraiser, Chief Medical Officer for the Cheyenne Mountain Facility, in Stargate SG-1. Dr. Fraiser’s skill and compassion enabled her to face the most peculiar cases brought to her by SG-1 and the other stargate teams for 75 episodes, until her untimely death in season 7.
Around her Stargate duties, Teryl continued to guest star in other film and TV projects, including The X-Files and Jeremiah, and was a series regular in the animated RoboCop spinoff, RoboCop: Alpha Commando, and the Inspector Gadget remake, Gadget and the Gadgetinis. After SG-1, she remained busy with roles in Inuyasha, Martin Mystery, The Dead Zone, Psych, Babylon 5: The Lost Tales, Eureka, Care Bears, Kyle XY, Smallville, The Guard, Caprica, Hellcats, The Killing, Cult, Rush, Supernatural, iZombie and Wayward Pines.
In 2013 Teryl was cast in a leading role in Cedar Cove, opposite Andie MacDowell, around and after which she continued to guest star in many other shows, including When We Rise, Bates Motel, Travelers, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Upload, Family Law and Murder in a Small Town, recurred on Arrow as Jean Loring, and starred in Chip and Potato, Nancy Drew as Celia Hudson, The Good Doctor as Dr. Jen Lancaster, and most recently in Virgin River as Muriel Saint Claire.
